Achievements: After I finished my internship at the San Luis, I wouldn't say that I gained any new skills. I did however improve the skills that I already had. I improved on my communication skills. Having to interact with guest whom might be angry at you because of something that is completely out of your hands. The guest might be intoxicated and trying to get something from you. You have to try and understand what they are trying to retrieve from you. All while acting in a professional manner.
I have gained a much better understanding of the hospitality business overall from my experience at the San Luis. My perspective of what is required in order to create a vacation experience that sets itself apart for guests is now much broader than it was prior to my internship. My appreciation for the San Luis Resort staff and their attitude toward guest service in sometimes difficult and stressful situations grew immensely. Some of the guests at the resort were rude at times when their experience did not meet their expectations. I learned that the best way to avoid a stressful situation for and with a guest is to provide first class service at all times. In unavoidable instances where guest expectations are not met, a compassionate, caring, and helpful attitude is your most valuable tool for fixing the problem.
